Highly processed foods linked to increased cancer risks

A diet of fizzy drinks, packaged baked goods, instant noodles, sugary cereals, candy and ready-made meals could raise your cancer risk. So says a study in the British Medical Journal which has found an association between such “ultra-processed” foods — typically high in sugar, fat and salt but low in nutrition — and increased risk of cancer. Scientists based in France and Brazil analyzed medical records and eating habits obtained through questionnaires of nearly 105,000 middle-aged French men and women. Southbridge-based Precision Testing Laboratories forfeits $1 million for unnecessary urine drug screens

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts-based laboratory will forfeit more than $1 million to settle claims it billed for medically unnecessary urine drug screens. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey said Southbridge-based Precision Testing Laboratories, Inc. and owner David Fromm, of Hull, agreed to make a payment of more than $400,000 as part of the Massachusetts settlement. Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen said the lab will forfeit nearly $657,000 as part of the Connecticut settlement.
